Great Park

Welcome to Great Park Neighborhoods!

Based on a visionary plan for 1,300 acres of amenities and parks space, more than 450 acres of park space has been completed, with more than 230 additional acres in progress. Great Park embraces recreation, competitive sports, parkland, and the environment. Upon completion, it will join America’s inventory of national treasures and set a new standard for great metropolitan parks around the world. Great Park offers plenty of activities for families, individuals, children, and outdoor enthusiasts. From athletic fields and walking trails, to playgrounds and a carousel, there is something for everyone.

Great Park features facilities, programs, on-site amenities, and attractions that reflect the City of Irvine’s dedication toward historical preservation, sustainable practices, and family-friendly activities.

Great Park offers a variety of children’s and adult programs in tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and chess, as well as educational classes exploring concepts in engineering, science, and more.

The Great Park Balloon Sponsored by FivePoint is the Great Park’s iconic attraction. With the ability to hold 25–30 passengers and soar 400 feet above the surrounding landscape, it offers an unmatched 360-degree view that spans 40 miles on a clear day. Visit the Great Park Balloon & Carousel page for information on hours, rates, and more.

The 194-acre Great Park Sports Complex is one of the largest sports complexes in the United States, and is the hub of activity for athletes of all ages in Southern California. The Great Park has been home to many tournaments. The expanded Sports Complex now includes:

  • A Tennis Complex, with one Championship Court and an additional 24 lighted tennis courts;
  • A Championship Soccer Stadium, with seating for 2,500 spectators, locker rooms, training facilities and more;
    24 soccer and lacrosse fields;
  • A Championship Sand Volleyball Court with four additional lighted sand volleyball courts;
  • A children’s play area, perfect for smaller, less competitive players;
  • Four lighted basketball courts;
  • A Baseball & Softball Complex, with one Championship Baseball Stadium, one Championship Softball Stadium, and 10 additional lighted ball diamonds;
  • The 30-acre South Lawn, which highlights two natural and two artificial tournament-quality, lighted fields, a spectator viewing area, giant chess sets, an extension of the Walkable Historical Timeline, a facility operations building with restrooms, and a one-mile Kaiser Permanente Thrive Path for walkers and runners; and a pair of reflecting ponds with a redwood viewing pier;
  • And finally, a North Lawn featuring a non-lighted, 7-acre multipurpose recreation area home to sports and activities of all types.

Every Sunday, the Great Park Certified Farmers Market offers fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables; handcrafted artisan products; and gourmet food trucks.

Kids Rock Playground is inspired by educating young guests about conservation ecology and the water cycle. A group of misting shade structures, climbing rocks, “underground tunnels,” a seating area made from recycled runway concrete, and illustrated lakes and streams on recycled rubber flooring come together to form an educationally unique and environmentally conscious space that is safe, fun, and relaxing.

The Terraced Lawn connects the Great Park Sports Complex to the Palm Court Arts Complex and Great Park Balloon area, and serves as an outdoor performance venue for many Great Park events including the annual summer tradition, Movies on the Lawn.

Great Park Ice & FivePoint Arena is operated independently on property leased from the City, and is a part of a public-private partnership with the Irvine Ice Foundation. The 280,000-square-foot ice and sports facility serves as the new training facility for the Anaheim Ducks® National Hockey League team and is home to many high-performance competitive skaters, including Nathan Chen, Mariah Bell, and Chris and Alexa Knierim. The facility features four indoor ice rinks — three NHL regulation rinks and one Olympic regulation rink — a full-service restaurant and bar, a café, and a gym.

Great Park Ice offers high-quality ice sports programming and activities including youth and adult hockey leagues, figure skating, regional and national tournaments and competitions, as well as open public recreational skating. The facility also offers private rentals, group skates, broomball, and curling leagues. Additionally, the facility offers visitors a free “Learn to Play Hockey” program for both youth and adults.

The main arena seats 2,500 and has the ability to host a wide variety of sporting and entertainment events. Other features include party rooms, classrooms, conference spaces, and outdoor public spaces and amenities.

With nationally ranked award winning schools and incredible amenities, Great Park is a truly incredible place to call home!
