The Great Park Live Nights You Can Bring a Chair and the Dog, and the Ones You Can't

Two free events at Great Park Live are six days apart this fall, and they don't share a rulebook. At the ektaa Diwali Fest on Saturday, October 24, your folding chair stays at home and so does your dog. At the Halloween Movie Night on Friday, October 30, you can bring both.

That gap matters to anyone in the Great Park Neighborhoods who treats the venue like a backyard amenity. The venue posts one set of house rules. Then each event page keeps them, loosens them or adds to them. Over the next three weekends, the event page is the one to read.

The four dates on the calendar

As of this Thursday, Great Park Live has four events between now and the first week of November. Each runs a little differently.

Event Date Admission Chairs Dogs Hours
Rise Against with Alkaline Trio Fri, Oct 23 Ticketed, all ages No Service animals only Doors 5:30 p.m.
ektaa Diwali Fest Sat, Oct 24 Free GA, all ages No Service animals only 1 to 9 p.m.
Halloween Movie Night Fri, Oct 30 Free, parking included Low-back chairs welcome Leashed dogs welcome Gates 5:30 p.m.
Dial Up Festival Sat, Nov 7 Ticketed, all ages No chairs No pets Doors 12 p.m. per checkout

Three of the four rows match. The Halloween row is the exception.

The default rules every event starts from

Great Park Live's venue policies ban chairs of any kind and allow no animals except service animals. They do allow a lap blanket for personal use, up to 45 by 55 inches. The venue's FAQ describes this as a strict no-pets policy.

Bags have their own limits. A clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches doesn't need to be clear. Anything bigger has to be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches. Medical and baby-supply bags can be up to 12 by 12 by 16 inches but go through extra screening. Outside food and drinks aren't allowed. The exception is water, up to 16 ounces in a factory-sealed, unfrozen plastic bottle.

These are the rules that apply on Friday, October 23, when Rise Against plays with Alkaline Trio and Teen Mortgage. The event page lists the show as all ages, with doors at 5:30 p.m., and doesn't announce any exceptions.

Free admission doesn't mean relaxed rules

The ektaa Diwali Fest is free, all ages, and runs from 1 to 9 p.m. on a Saturday. The Great Park Live listing promises Indian music, cultural performances, food, shopping and henna. A traditional lamp lighting ceremony starts at 7 p.m., followed by a drone show.

The listing doesn't loosen any house rules, though, and the free general admission ticket on Tixr doesn't either. So the venue default applies. That means no chairs, no pets other than service animals, a lap blanket up to 45 by 55 inches, and no outside food. If you're planning to stay through the drone show, you'll be on your feet or on a blanket after an afternoon on the grounds.

The one night the defaults flip

The Halloween Movie Night on Friday, October 30, is the only event this stretch that changes the house rules in the direction most neighbors want. The City of Irvine's event listing welcomes blankets and low-back chairs and says leashed dogs are welcome too. Admission and parking are both free. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Minions & Monsters starts at 6 p.m. and Hocus Pocus at 8 p.m., both on large LED screens.

Some rules still apply. Outside food and umbrellas are banned. The Tixr listing allows a sealed, unfrozen water bottle or an empty Hydroflask. If you forget a chair, Adirondack chairs rent on site for $10 each, and a Kids Zone wristband costs $15. Beyond those two listed prices, the only other spending is on the food and drinks sold on site. The 8 p.m. Hocus Pocus start makes it a late evening for a younger family, so the earlier film is the shorter outing.

Dial Up tightens the rules again

A week later the rules get stricter. Dial Up Festival comes to Great Park Live on Saturday, November 7, with Nelly, Sugar Ray, Lit, Paul Wall, Unwritten Law and more on the bill, all ages. The festival's ticketing page bans outside food and pets and says no low-back or high-back chairs. Kids 5 and under get in free. The low-back chair that was fine on October 30 isn't allowed on November 7.

Ticket details need a careful look. The Dial Up homepage advertises a limited-time Irvine offer at $39.99 plus tax with no fees. The checkout page shows several general admission tiers with fees added, including a $42.41 total on a $39.99 ticket. The checkout also still carries the festival's old Castaic Lake name, because the November 7 show moved to Great Park Live. The festival's Irvine show page says the set-by-set schedule hasn't been announced and event-specific parking charges haven't been confirmed, while the checkout lists doors at 12 p.m. and general admission from 2 to 10 p.m. The total at checkout and the organizer's latest email are what count.

What parking costs, and the deadline

Parking prices change from event to event too. Great Park Live's getting here page lists $20 general admission and $30 preferred, if the event charges for parking. Irvine Nights events are free. Online parking sales close at 11:59 p.m. the day before each show, and day-of parking is sold on site. If you're driving, the Halloween Movie Night is the one event this stretch that lists free parking.

The venue address is 300 Corsair. Driving directions use Lot 2. From I-5, exit at Sand Canyon Avenue, then take Great Park Boulevard and follow the signs. The page doesn't name a rideshare pickup or drop-off point.

For bigger nights, the City has shown how it handles neighborhood traffic. For Daisy Chain Fields in August, the City's traffic notice closed parts of Marine Way and Skyhawk and sent departing guests to Irvine Boulevard, then southbound Bosque. It also told residents they could text GREATPARK to 888777 for traffic alerts. That notice covered a different event, but the text alert line is the same channel for whatever comes next.

The outside-food ban sends everyone half a mile away

All four events ban outside food. That makes the closest meal before the gates open part of the plan. The closest option is newer than most of this calendar. In-N-Out opened at 7900 Great Park Boulevard on September 4 as the first tenant to open at The Canopy at Great Park. It's open 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Event crowds found it even before it opened. The Orange County Register reported that Daisy Chain Fields festivalgoers parked near the new In-N-Out, about half a mile away, and found the drive-thru wasn't open yet. They were six days early. Those late hours also cover the drive home after a 9 p.m. Diwali finish or a late Dial Up set.

That one drive-thru is most of the food option for now. The Canopy is planned as a 12-acre center with more than 90,000 square feet of retail and dining, and its first phase is set to begin opening in late 2026. The Register's March tenant report listed H&H Bagels, Philz Coffee, Osen Urban Table, The Taco Stand, Chicha San Chen, and JJANG Yakiniku and Social House, among others. T&T Supermarket is expected to open its first Southern California location there in early 2027. In September, the Irvine Standard reported that Shootz expects to open late 2026 or early 2027. The City's September construction report has Hangar 10, a food and beverage hub at The Canopy, starting construction in December and finishing by summer 2027.

Closer to home, the same report says the Bosque Enhancement project will add upgraded landscaping and a new playground between Cadence and Benchmark. The City's Bosque project page expects that work to wrap up by winter 2026/27. Until the Canopy restaurants open, pregame dinner before a Great Park Live show means a drive-thru line on Great Park Boulevard. Inside the gates, how you sit depends on which event page you checked.
